Collision Data Recorders

In recent years there has been an increase in the use of data recorder, or ‘black boxes’ by insurance companies and fleet operators as the reducing cost of the technology make these devices cost effective in road traffic collision investigations. However, modern day vehicles also retain more and more data relating to vehicle movement within the system’s computer units. These are sometime referred to as EDR’s (Event Data Recorders) or ACM’s (Airbag Control Modules).

Whilst specific data recorders provide the user with the data, EDR data is held within the computer system of a vehicle and requires specialist computer hardware to access. However, FCIR has the latest equipment to download this data from the full range of vehicles currently supported.

This webinar details what a trained road traffic collision investigator is able to obtain from a vehicle and the value of this information with regards to an investigation.
