Dan is a Senior Consultant at FCIR. Before moving into private practice, he served as a Police Officer in Leicestershire for 19 years, working as a Forensic Collision Investigator from 2018 onward.
His experience includes serious and fatal collision investigation, structured interpretation of physical and digital evidence, and the production of clear, scientifically grounded reports alongside in‑person expert testimony in high‑profile cases in the Crown Court.
Dan holds a First‑Class BSc (Hons) in Forensic Road Collision Investigation and he is a Chartered Forensic Practitioner (ChFP – Collision) and a Professional Member of the Chartered Society of Forensic Science (MCSFS). His academic work includes original empirical research around e-scooter riding, which has been presented at national and international conferences. He has also published within the field. He is skilled across a wide range of specialist areas, in addition to physical scene evidence interpretation, including CCTV analysis, digital evidence interpretation including Event Data Recorder (EDR), micromobility, human factors and uncertainty of measurement. His technical capability also extends into emerging methodologies such as the forensic use of smartphone‑derived GNSS data.
Dan held an advanced police driving authority for over 15 years, and also holds full licences for motorcycles, large goods vehicles and passenger‑carrying vehicles. This breadth of operational driving experience places him in a strong position to understand and analyse collisions involving all types of vehicle, from two‑wheelers to heavy goods vehicles. He is recognised for his critical, analytical approach and his ability to test evidence methodically while presenting findings with clarity and precision. His investigations are consistently described as robust, accurate and beyond reproach, reflecting his strong scientific integrity and meticulous attention to detail. He brings to FCIR a combination of technical depth, scientific rigour and a methodical investigative mindset, ensuring that every case is approached with independence, clarity and a commitment to the truth.
